AZMOM VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Every year we are more and more humbled by the outpouring of selfless, generous, loving and gracious individuals that we are fortunate to partner with at our annual AZ Mission of Mercy event.
We truly work alongside some of the very best out there and have selected some outstanding volunteers to join our AZMOM Wall of Fame! These volunteers consistently go above and beyond with us, year after year, and we are thrilled to put them in the spotlight and highlight the recognition they deserve. Last month we recognized volunteer, Jay Smith, and this month we are featuring Jacqueline Sommer, shown below! We are QUICKLY approaching our event date, just over ONE MONTH away! So keep an eye out for more spotlights as well as event details to appear. THANK YOU to ALL of our volunteers for ALL you do, and we look forward to seeing everyone again December 9th and 10th, 2016!!! #azmomcares
Jacqueline (Jackie) Sommer
1- How many years have you been in dentistry? 32 years – Registered Dental Hygienist and Certified Dental Assistant
2- Who do you currently work for, and what is your title? Estrella Dentistry Phoenix
3- How many AZMOM events have you worked? Since 2012, as the Central Supply Lead
4- Why is AZMOM important to you? AZMOM is important to me because we can treat so many needy patients in our community that otherwise suffer in physical pain not to mention the effects socially because they lack a full compliment of healthy teeth.
5- Is there a significant memory/patient, from any of the AZMOM events you have participated in, that stands out to you? One of my favorite memories was in 2015. It was late Saturday evening and we were packing up the lab. One of the last denture patients was still in the lab while we were cleaning up. She was about 50 years old. She was handed a mirror and smiled to see her new teeth. I asked her if I could take her picture. She posed for the picture with her new sweet smile. I asked her how long she’d been without teeth. She responded with tears and said 25 years. I thought about her often over the next few weeks – how much we changed her life!
6- What keeps you coming back to volunteer at AZMOM each year? I love coming back every year because each year we become more well tuned and closer as a team. The fact that we can transform a concrete space to a Huge Dental City never ceases to amaze me!
